What is JUVÉDERM® Volbella XC?
Volbella was an extension of the Juvéderm® line targeting the lips. As are all the Juvéderm® fillers, Volbella is a hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body that is responsible for hydrating and plumping the skin. All five Juvéderm® fillers we carry at SILK plump the skin and lips in the same way. When injected, the hyaluronic acid in the filler binds with water molecules in the area to firm the skin, add volume, and fill wrinkles.
Volbella is specifically approved and formulated to provide subtle volume to the lips. It was created as a less dramatic lip filler alternative when compared to Juvéderm® Ultra and Ultra Plus. Both of those fillers are also meant for the lips, but they add more visible volume. They are intended to plump the lips in a more dramatic way, while Volbella adds volume with a softer approach.
Would JUVÉDERM® Volbella XC Be Right for Me?
Juvéderm® Volbella XC is only for the lips, along with Juvéderm® Ultra and Ultra Plus XC. But they address different issues. Ultra is for visibly plumping the lips. Juvéderm® Volbella XC adds subtle volume to the lips and smooths those irritating vertical lip lines that form as we get older.
So, if your lips are thinner than you like, either from volume loss or if they’ve been that way your entire life, Juvéderm® Volbella XC is a way to subtly increase their size and remove wrinkles. It will give you fuller, shapelier lips, but your results will look natural, not showy.
What is a Treatment Session Like?
A Juvéderm® Volbella XC session usually only takes around 30 minutes. Because Juvéderm® Volbella XC has lidocaine in its formula, many patients don’t feel the need for topical numbing prior to their injections. That is up to you, as we are glad to provide numbing cream if you desire.
When Will I See Results and How Long Will They Last?
Your results are immediate with Juvéderm® Volbella XC. Those results will last up to one year. At that time, your body will begin to absorb the filler and you’ll need to schedule another session to maintain your results. Research has shown that subsequent sessions require less product to achieve the same results. Research with Juvéderm® Volbella XC has shown that 80 percent of people treated remain satisfied with the appearance of their lips one year after treatment.
Is It Painful to Get JUVÉDERM® Volbella Injections?
Everyone’s tolerance for pain is different. Some people don’t request any topical numbing prior to their session. Others demand it. Let’s just say this — you can feel these injections, but the pain or sensation is easily manageable.
Will I Have Any Downtime After My Volbella Session?
No. You can go right back to work or your normal activities. You may have some slight swelling and tenderness at your injection sites, but it won’t preclude you from doing anything you want to do.
What Are the Side Effects With JUVÉDERM® Volbella XC?
Since hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and is the basis of Juvéderm® fillers, allergic reactions are virtually unheard of. Possible side effects are mild. They include swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness, redness, itching, dryness, and discomfort at the injection sites. These usually pass in one to two days but can last for up to 30 days. If there is any issue with Volbella, an injection of an enzyme called hyaluronidase can instantly reverse the effects of the filler.
